Fishing for Channel Channel Catfish

One of the most popular freshwater fish to catch in North America is the channel catfish. These hard-fighting fish are found in lakes and rivers across the continent, and anglers of all Skill levels enjoy targeting them. In this post, we’re going to give you some tips on how to catch channel catfish.


To start, you’ll need to choose the right bait. channel catfish are not particularly fussy eaters, but live bait tends to work best. Worms, leeches, minnows and crayfish are all good options. If you’re using artificial bait, try using chicken livers, cut-up fish, or live bait imitation lures.


Next, you’ll need to find a good spot to fish. channel catfish tend to hang around structure like submerged logs, rocks, or roots. They also like to congregate in areas with current, so keep that in mind when choosing a spot to fish.


Once you’ve found a good spot, it’s time to start fishing. channel catfish are most active at night, so that’s the best time to target them. Use a heavy-duty fishing rod and lure.


If you're angling for a channel catfish, you'll want to fish in waters with a strong current. The best bait for channel catfish is live bait, like worms or minnows. Use a heavy-duty fishing line and a large hook, and cast your line upstream from a likely spot. Channel catfish are bottom feeders, so keep your bait near the bottom of the water column. Be patient and wait for a bite—when a channel catfish bites, it's sure to be a big one!
